The Department of Physics, Paavai Institutions, organized a panel discussion titled “Quantum Computing: Impact on Industry and Academia” on 3rd January 2026 at 2.00 p.m. The event was held in Pragathi Hall and brought together students to explore emerging developments in quantum technologies and their potential societal influence. The session commenced with a Prayer and Tamilthai Vazhthu rendered by the students, setting a solemn and inspirational tone for the programme. This was followed by a Welcome Address delivered by Ms. M. Preethi, I-MBA, Paavai Engineering College, who warmly greeted the panelists and participants while highlighting the relevance of the theme. The Presidential Address was delivered by Shri. C.A.N.V. Natarajan, Chairman, Paavai Institutions. In his address, he emphasized the growing importance of interdisciplinary knowledge, the transformative scope of quantum technologies, and the need for academic preparedness to embrace futuristic innovations.
The core of the event was the Panel Discussion, moderated by Prof. Kamala Krishnamurthy, Centre Head, Paavai Innovation Forum. The distinguished panelists included Dr. R. Mohanapriya, Associate Professor and Head, Department of ECE, Paavai Engineering College, representing academia, and Mr. R. Rakesh, Assistant Professor, Department of IT, Paavai Engineering College, representing the industry perspective. The discussion covered fundamental concepts of quantum computing, current global technological trends, challenges in hardware scalability, and the role of academic institutions in skill development and research. The experts also shared insights on potential industrial applications in cybersecurity, optimization, data science, and futuristic communication systems.
As part of the ceremony, Smt. Mangai Natarajan, Correspondent, Paavai Institutions offered felicitations, appreciating the speakers for their contributions and encouraging students to engage actively in cutting-edge scientific domains. The Vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. R. Ruhika, I-Bio Tech, Paavai Engineering College, who expressed gratitude to the management, faculty, panelists, and organizing committee for making the programme successful. The event concluded with the National Anthem, sung respectfully by the students. Overall, the panel discussion served as a platform to bridge theoretical understanding with real-world industrial applications and inspired young learners to pursue research and opportunities in emerging quantum technologies.
