M. Jegan, an NSS volunteer of Paavai Engineering College, Namakkal, was given the “NSS Best Counselor” award for the year 2015-16 by National Service Scheme Cell of Anna University, Chennai.
National Service Scheme (NSS) is a permanent youth programme under the ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India and funded by Government of Tamil Nadu and Government of India. The Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports honored the outstanding NSS units, NSS programme officers and NSS volunteers with medal every year.
The award was presented for creating environmental awareness among the public, blood donation awareness camps, conducting medical camps, road safety programmes, village adoption, self-employment training for interested people and development of communicative and personality skills of rural students.
As many as 1000 students enrolled for this award. Of 25 nominees, Jegan was given this prestigious award for his valuable services for humanity.
The NSS cell of Anna University organized its award function for the year 2015-2016 at Vivekananda Auditorium, Anna University, on 24th September 2016.
