Application of Mathematics in engineering discipline
A one-day workshop on “Application of Mathematics in engineering discipline” was organized by Faculty Development department for the Mathematics faculty of Paavai Institutions on 17-12-2016.
The workshop was conducted in five sessions. The first session was handled by Dr.A.Arangasamy (HoD, ECE, PEC), who spoke on the application of Fourier series and Transforms in Digital Signal Processing with reference to traffic signals, ECG, etc. The second session was given by Dr.P.Jagadeesan, (HoD, Civil, PCT). He taught Heron’s rule, Law of cosines, Euler’s formula, Taylor’s series in order to calculate area, unknown distance, material loading and deflection of beams. The third session was given by Mrs.P.Elakiya, (Assistant Professor, EEE, PEC) who explained about differential equation with reference to closed electrical circuits in the branch of electrical and electronics engineering. Mrs.D.Banumathi (Assistant Professor, CSE, PEC) related the application of graph theory in GSM mobile network, web page designing and Neural network.
During the last session, Mr.L.Prakasam (Assistant Professor, Mech, PCT) focused on the principle of calculating Finite Element analysis using matrix. The workshop provided an occasion to know about the application of mathematics in engineering studies. The faculty felt inspired and they came out with a request that similar workshops of these types on different concepts could be conducted for the benefit of the faculty who in turn would teach effectively those areas in the classroom. There were totally 28 faculty members who attended the programme. Dr.K.Selvi, Dean Academics and Dr.S.Sukumar, Dean Civil made arrangements for the success of the workshop.
