Women’s Day was celebrated on 13.03.2014 at Ananda Arangam A/c Auditorium. Shri. CA. N.V.Natarajan, Chairman, presided over the function. In his presidential address, he stated that women have the potential to do anything in this world. They are born to achieve and the growth of the future generation lies in them. So women should develop their administrative skills.
Smt. Mangai Natarajan, Correspondent, felicitated the gathering. She told that women should take decisions daringly without fear. But they should have fear for certain things. If they have self-control and self-confidence, they need not fear for anything, anywhere, anytime. No one need to give freedom to women. They themselves should retain their rights. “Woman is the embodiment of all powers. If she thinks, she can create and also destroy”. She concluded her speech by instructing the young girls to develop their creative skills and inner strength. Dr. Bhagavathi Govindan, Controller of Examinations and Dr.R.Kasthuri Bai, Dean-Faculty Development of Paavai Institutions also addressed the gathering.
Earlier, M.Malarmangai, II Year Mathematics, welcomed the gathering. Various cultural events were staged by the students of Paavai Institutions after the speech by the dignitaries. At 2.00 p.m. a musical debate on “Pannisaiyil Penmai” was conducted by Mrs.Vasuki Manoharan. The topic taken for discussion was “Who hounoured women through music? Ancient Lys]ricists? Modern Lyricists? Folk Lyricists?” In the debate, the debater Bhuvaneshwari from Tirupur argued for ancient lyricists, Mr.Prabhu from Erode sided with the modern lyricists and Mrs.Tamilarasi Paramasivam supported the folk lyricists.
The primeval lyricists gently treated womanhood as motherhood. They gave importance to the sense of the lyrics. The lyricists of today are treating women in the lyrics of their own wish without giving importance to women in a complete and decent manner. Modern lyricists degraded the value of tradition by the name of modernity. Folk songs are the roots of old and modern songs. Though the folk song has got its significance, it doesn’t occupy a major part in the minds of the people. So, the arbitrator Mrs.Vasuki Manoharan presented the verdict that the ancient lyricists paid more tribute to women than others and so one should follow the primeval lyricists.
Dignitaries, Principals, Professors and all the girl students of Paavai Institutions participated in the celebration and enjoyed the musical debate.
