Paavai Engineering College, Youth Red Cross in association with Saravana Hospital, Salem, and Rotary Club of Salem Midtown celebrated “World Mental Health Day 2023” on 14.10.2023 with around 2000 students. It commenced with a rally signifying “Mental Health is a Universal Human Right”. Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan, Chairman, Paavai Institutions presided over the function. He insisted that “Strong mind and strong soul lie in a strong body”. He also added that these type of celebration nurtures and nourishes young minds where mental health plays a significant role. The event had prolific discussions and talks by different speakers focusing on mental wellness, mindfulness, practical tips, and strategies for stabilizing good mental health.
Dr.S.Ashok, Managing Director, Saravana Hospitals stressed the importance of “World Health Day” and advised students that bookish knowledge alone will not lead to success in life. Rtn.K.Ramalingam, President, Rotary Club of Salem Midtown focused on the importance of doing exercise and walking in day today life to avoid stress. Dr.R.Vetrivendan, Siddha Medical Officer, Government of Tamil Nadu gave his felicitation where he insisted on yoga, meditation, and breathing exercises to keep our mind healthy. Dr. C. Babu, Consultant Psychiatrist, Sri Gokulum Hospitals, Salem shared his experience in the field of Psychiatry and the different ways to boost mental well-being. He explained about parenting styles, basic behaviour principles, reinforcement, risk factors, signs of anxiety, depression and different ways to overcome it.
Mime and skit were performed by our students, and they were awarded cash prizes for the short film contest organized on the theme of “Mental Health”. Coordinators of the event were also honoured by the team from Saravana Hospitals. A survey was also taken to measure the stress level during the programme. Mr.K.Senthil, Director Admissions, Dr.K.K.Ramasamy, Director Administration, Deans, Principals, Heads of various departments, faculty members and students of Paavai Educational Institutions graced the event.
