Pavai Arts and Science College for Women celebrated International Women’s Day with a motivational speech program titled “சங்கத்தமிழின் சிங்கப்பெண்” on March 7, 2025, at Anandha Aragam. The event commenced with a prayer song and the Tamil Thai Vazhthu.
Mrs. Chitra Ganapathy, Managing Director of Madurai Kadambavanam (Temple of Tamil Traditions), graced the occasion as the special guest. Shri CA. N.V. Natarajan, Founder & Chairman of Paavai Educational Institutions, presided over the function and delivered the presidential address. Ms. R. Swetha, a III-year B.E CSE student from Paavai Engineering College, delivered the welcome address and greeted everyone.
Following this, Mrs. Mangai Natarajan, Correspondent of Paavai Educational Institutions, lit the ceremonial lamp along with other dignitaries.
The special guest, Mrs. Chitra Ganapathy, delivered an inspiring address. She commended Paavai Educational Institutions for recognizing the importance of celebrating womanhood and shaping women into achievers. She emphasized that women have been pioneers in various fields since ancient times.“A woman is a sublime creation, and our literature is a testament to this. The word ‘woman’ itself originates from the concept of cherishing. If we explore our rich Sangam literature, women have played a crucial role in nurturing families, excelling in business, agriculture, knowledge, and culture.”
She referenced Ponmudiyar’s poetic lines:
‘Giving birth and nurturing is my primary duty.’
She explained that, since the Sangam era, women have been the foundation of civilization, discovering food sources, developing trade through barter, and participating in cotton production as evidenced in the Keeladi excavations. She also highlighted archaeological findings from Thenur in Madurai, where gold bars inscribed with the names of Sangam-era women were discovered, proving their economic independence. She further mentioned how Avvaiyar, a revered Tamil poet, served as a diplomat, and how women excelled in virtues such as modesty, nurturing, and leadership. “Ours is a woman-centered society that depends on women for its growth. As modern women, you must serve as a bridge between tradition and modernity. It is your responsibility to preserve and pass on the antiquity, greatness, and dignity of Tamil language, culture, and civilization to future generations.”
Following her speech, Mrs. Mangai Natarajan delivered a felicitation address.
The event also included a prize distribution ceremony, where trophies and certificates were awarded to the winners of Sristi 2025, the cultural festival of Pavai Arts and Science College for Women.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. G. Suvathini Sri, a III-year B.E CSE student from Paavai Engineering College, followed by the National Anthem.
The event was attended by Dr. K.K. Ramasamy, Director (Administration) of Paavai Educational Institutions, along with principals, heads of departments, professors, and students.
