A three day orientation programme for our students in three batches was held from 27th June to 7th July 2017. The programme was inaugurated on 27.06.2017 at Keerthi Hall. Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan, Chairman, Paavai Institutions presided over the inaugural function. Smt. Mangai Natarajan, Correspondent, Paavai Institutions felicitated the gathering. In her felicitations, she expressed her desires that the students should shape their individualities and emerge as successful women who can be set as examples to the future generation. She explained the importance of the programme saying that it would help the girl students to remove ignorance and help them increase their self-confidence thereby providing them a better understanding of themselves. The inaugural function came to an end with the session being handed over to the Chairman, Paavai Institutions. In the first session, the Chairman detailed ‘Goal Setting’ to the students in a simple mode. He made the students know the difference between dream and goal. He clearly explained how to frame smart goal and achieve it by creating a strong vision of who they want to be. He enumerated his own life tussles in reaching his goal of establishing Paavai Institutions, which was considered to be the best example of goal setting by the students. He insisted that the students should set goals with time frame and work hard to achieve the goals within the stipulated time and maintain good relationship with others. He also highlighted that honest ambition, straight path, perseverance, hard work, stern discipline and unconditional devotion are the core principles, which lead to successful life. In the next session, Dr.R.Rajeswari, Principal of Pavai Arts and Science College for Women delivered a speech on ‘Time Management’. She highlighted the secrets of Time Management in terms of value of time, time budgeting and concentration on work. She also asked the students to plan their days by distinguishing urgent and important works, further giving priority to crucial works. She insisted the students to concentrate on their studies by getting rid of distractions and developing constant reading habit. Dr. A.S.Kandasamy, Dean, ECE, Paavai Engineering College, spoke on ‘Fundamentals of Science (Subject)’. He discussed various subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Botany, English, Electronics, Engineering, etc, and created interest in the minds of the students to learn non-major subjects too. He explained some new terms in English and Science. He concluded his speech narrating the importance of prayer. Mrs.C.Jayalakshmi, Dean, Counseling, delivered her speech on ‘Transition from School to College’. She gave a clear picture on the mentality of school students and their need for transition as college students. She encouraged the students to be bold in their life and advised them not to upload their photos in social media. She imbibed in their minds how to face the opposite gender in the society by being vigilant. Dr. R.Kasthuri Bai, Dean, Faculty Development expounded a speech on ‘Communication Skills’. She motivated the students to speak in English by explaining the significance of English. Further she explained the significance of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Dr. R. Shanthi, HoD of English, Paavai Engineering College also spoke on ‘Communication Skills’ to one of the batches. Mr. C.Loganathan, HoD, Audio and Visual, Paavai Institutions, addressed the students on ‘Life Skills’. He created awareness among the students regarding first aid. He encouraged them to help the needy on time without any hesitation and fear. He advocated the students to rescue people from various accidents and motivated them to donate blood, eye and organs. He also taught them how to prepare first aid kit. Mrs. Mahalakshmi Subramaniyam, Additional Placement Officer, Paavai Engineering College, delivered her speech on ‘Career Development’. She described how to choose a career with clear knowledge. She described clearly about grooming skills, problem solving skills and communication skills. She insisted the students to speak in English without any hesitation to face interview and group discussion. She also created an awareness regarding the recruitment and the expectation of the companies. Dr. K.Selvi, Dean Academics, PEC delivered her speech on ‘Pavai Culture’. She detailed about classroom behaviour and principles which should be followed in Pavai. She advised the students not to waste food by stating the importance of food and miserable plight of the starving people. She concluded her speech by asking the students to pay tribute to the farmers, who are backbone of our country. Mrs. K.Subashini, Associate Professor, Faculty Development Department, delivered her speech on ‘Beauty of Mathematics’. In her session, she beautifully explained how mathematics plays an important role in day to day life. She also taught mathematics in simple way and elucidated its usage in everyday life.
Mrs. K.Vimala, HoD, Department of Computer Science, Pavai Arts and Science College for Women, explained in detail the ‘Examination System’. She explained how to write internal and external examinations. She gave more details about the answer booklet and its structure which is given by Periyar University and gave tips for students for writing their University semester examination. She emphasised the students to concentrate on their time while writing examination. The Valedictory function of the three-day Orientation Programme for I year students was held on 07.07.2017 at Pragathi Hall. The session started with the feedback from the students. Students came out with their goals and inner views, which were kindled by the resource persons. Smt. Mangai Natarajan, Correspondent,Paavai Institutions, in her Felicitation Address, stressed the importance of self-confidence, which is the real beauty of women. She also motivated the students to improve their communication skill, which is mandatory to survive in this competitive world. She concluded her speech stressing on Paavai manthra ‘Penmai Potruthum’. The session came to an end with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. S. Kavya of I B.A English.
