Excellence in any art is won by training and habituation. Hence, Paavai Faculty development department believes in offering continuous training programmes to staff members (recently recruited and existing) in fostering domain knowledge, strengthening communicative competence, adopting various effective and innovative pedagogical skills with an emphasis on institutional values and Paavai culture.
An Orientation programme for the recently recruited staff members of Paavai institutions commenced during the academic year 2017-18 in the following manner. In order to give individual attention and intensification the members were divided into small batches, each consisting of 25-30. The first batch of Arts and Science & polytechnic had their training from 05.06.17 to 09.06.17, the second batch of Engineering faculty from PEC and the concurrent batch of faculty from PCE &PCT held from 12.06.17 to 16.06.17.
The orientation programme was inaugurated by Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan, Chairman, Paavai Institutions. In his inaugural address, he elaborated about the ‘Making of Paavai’ and he further stressed the effective leadership and its styles. In the afternoon session, correspondent madam spoke about the civic behavior and social responsibility of an individual. Prof.Chenniappan, Dean English, Prof.A.S.Kandasamy, ECE, PEC, Dr.Selvi, Dean Academics, Dr.KasthuriBai, Dean Faculty Development, Dr.Devi, Principal, PCE, Mr.S.Srinivasan, Placement & Training, Dr.A.Suphalakshmi, HoD, CSE , Dr.R.Rajeshwari, Principal, PASW, Mrs.Jayalakshmi, Dean Counselling AND Mrs.Subashini, Faculty development department were the resource persons for the recently recruited faculty of Arts and science & polytechnic college . The topics such as Communication, Pedagogy, Teaching science subjects, Institutional belongingness, Role of teachers in Placement and training, Smart teaching, Fulfilling works’ place expectation and Teachers are second parents were dealt upon. The participant teachers took classes in their respective subjects and corrections were given for further improvement.
Then the video graphing of the classes of participant teachers were taken and it was shown to them for the correction.

The highlight of the training was the introduction of Microteaching according to which, each faculty was asked to make a mini presentation on a topic of his/her own interest specializing in the skills of introduction ,explanation, interaction, interrogation, demonstration, board management, verbal and non-verbal communication, project preparation, summing up etc. The faculty members were observed and suggestions were offered to them, then and there, by the subject experts. The performance was also video-graphed and monitored by Dr.R.Kasthuri Bai, Dean, Faculty Development and Mrs.Subashini.K , Associate professor, Faculty development dept, PEC. SWOT analysis was done to increase the awareness of the faculty to convert their weakness into strengths and threats into opportunities. It was found out that there was a marked change in the performance of the trainees from their initial efforts to their final presentation in various parameters of effective teaching. Since training is a continuous self-promoting venture, the Academy has decided to enter into a second round of professional enrichment for the faculty to keep abreast with innovative practices and quality teaching to have holistic impact upon the stakeholders.
The valedictory and feedback session was held on 16.6.17 for Arts and science, Polytechnic and Engineering colleges. The feedback was given by all faculty representing each
college. It was followed by the Valedictory address by the chairman sir. In his Valedictory address, he stressed about the importance of empowerment and accountability of the faculty to the institution. The correspondent madam felicitated the gathering.
