The inaugural function of the International Conference on “Adaptive Technologies for Sustainable Growth (ICATS 2014)” was held at 10 am on May 9th,2014 at AnandhaArangam.. The function commenced with the prayer. Smt.N.Mangai Natarajan, Correspondent, Paavai Institutions, lighted the Kuthuvilakku. The welcome address was given by Dr.K.K.Ramasamy, Director, Administration of Paavai Institutions and the Presidential address was delivered by Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan, Chairman, Paavai Institutions.
The Chief guest Dr.U.Chandrasekar, Director, ESCI, Institute of Engineers, Hyderabad inaugurated the conference and stated in his speech that, “He was proud and privileged to be on the campus of Paavai Engineering College which has adapted itself according to the growing needs & demands of technical education by establishing sophisticated infrastructure and by providing students- centric education. He pointed out that technology keeps changing and therefore young engineers have to engage themselves in inventing socially productive and environmentally benefitting projects. He explained that adaptive technology means any product, device, or equipment, whether acquired commercially, modified or customized, that is used to maintain, increase, or improve the functional capabilities of individuals. He continued that, Sustainable growth means continuous and constant technology benefits to humanity and there would be more challenges in the years to come. It is doubtful whether the future generation would enjoy the natural resources as we are doing it now. Hence, it is the foremost responsibility of every citizen to safeguard the natural resources and hand it over to our successors as a legacy. Students have a lot of potentials and creative energy but they have to harness the same in proper channels through practical inventions. Classroom learning could be considered as a stepping stone in this regard.
The chief guest requested the stakeholders, namely the staff, the students and the institution to effectively plan and implement sustainable activities. The faculty must promote creative thinking in their classroom instructional delivery. They have to design their pedagogical skills in such a manner that there would be more room for inter-actions and knowledge sharing. Similarly, the students should also volunteer to engage themselves in doing or undertaking projects. They should get trained to emerge as job providers rather than job seekers.
The speaker professed that knowledge, skills and attitude are the graduate attributes and the engineers should opt for mastering enter preneurial skills. The third request that the speaker has put forward to the management was that, it has to keep supporting and providing the best possible teaching-learning ambience as it has been doing now. In order to stimulate interest and enthusiasm among engineering students ,The speaker cited many projects undertaken by technological inventers, such as the popular ‘Nano Ganesh’ product in Gujarat which allows farmers to use mobile phone to remotely monitor and switch on irrigation pumps used for watering crops in remote locations. Secondly, he talked about the application of biggest online bus booking service, redBus, which improves online travel industry. He also referred to the application of An autonomous car also known as a driverless car or robot car, a vehicle capable of fulfilling the human transportation capabilities of a traditional car.
