Harikatha Sundarakandam

On 28/10/2017, a devotional speech on Sundarakandam was organized for the students of Pavai Arts and Science College in Anandha Arangam at 3.30 p.m. The Chairman of Paavai Institutions, C.A.N.V.Natarajan, welcomed and introduced the chief guest Smt Vishaka Hari(Harikada Soodamani). The Correspondent of Paavai Institutions Smt.Mangai Natarajan, honoured the guest with shawl. And the Musicians were honoured with shawl by the Director of Administration. The Chief Guest Smt. Vishaka Hari started the narration of sundrakandam with the prayer song.

Initially she began her speech by telling the importance of arts and the abundant source of arts available in India. Especially she mentioned the epics Ramayana and Mahabaratha as the universal treasures, from which people can learn everything.

She chose to narrate Sundrakaandam poised by Arunachala Roy in Tamil keerthanas which is also composed as a Dance Drama. By blending Sahana ragam and Ananda Bairavi ragam, she enchantingly recited how Hanuman helped Raman, went to Lanka to meet Sita and returned to Ram by the word ‘Kanden Sithaiyai’.

Throughout the story, she brought out the qualities of the Lord Hanuman like self-control, decision making, focus, and presence of mind and characteristics features of Sita. She also emphasized that students should learn the moral values and noble characters from both Hanuman and Sita.

The programme came to an end by her prayer song. Students felt grateful for her presence and for her work of art.
