National Service Scheme, Paavai Educational Institutions and SIMS Chellum Hospital, Salem jointly organized a one day workshop on First Aid (For Everyone, Everywhere) held on 10th August, 2018. Dr.K.Mohana Sundaram MS (Ortho), Mch (Ortho), Managing Director, SIMS Chellum Hospital, Salem and Dr. D. Lavanya., FRCA., London (DA), Consultant Intensivist and Anaesthetist, SIMS Chellum Hospital, Salem was the guest speakers for the workshop. The workshop started with the divine note of Prayer song, Tamilthai Vazhuthu and lighting of Kuthuvilaku. K.R.Soundharya, B.E. (CSE), Final Year, Paavai Engineering College, welcomed the gathering. Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan, Chairman, Paavai Educational Institutions and Smt.N.MANGAI NATARAJAN, Correspondent, Paavai Educational Institutions, presided over the function. Dr. M.Premkumar, Principal, Paavai Engineering College, graced the occasion. Dr.K.Selvi, Dean-Academics, C.Rathnakumar, NSS Programme Officer, Paavai Engineering College, J.Saravannan, NSS Programme Officer, Paavai College of Engineering, S.Sathish, NSS Programme Officer, Pavai College of Technology, were the organizers of the workshop. Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan, the Chairman, in his inaugural address, emphasized the importance of First Aid and the role of each student to save a life of the victim. He insisted that the students should learn the first aid properly to render the services to the society. The Correspondent madam encouraged the participants by saying that this is an opportunity to learn the basic First aid and its measures. 180 NSS volunteers from the colleges of Paavai Educational Institutions, participated in the workshop. In the First session, Dr.K.Mohana Sundaram, focused on the topics like ABC-Airway, Breathing, Circulation, CPR-Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Chocking, Facts on Choking, Choking Causes, Choking Symptoms, Snake Bite, Road Accident, Fractures and First Aid activities. In the second session the topics such as burns, heat and cold stroke, choking, drowning, head injuries, bleeding, insect-bite, dog-bite, snake-bite, fracture, bandaging, asthma attack and acid attack were dealt upon. The demonstration on handling fractures, arrest bleeding and administering CPR were done. The same were practiced by all the students. The students realized the importance of first aid and life. College believes that this small effort will make their students to learn to safeguard their lives and help others in emergency. The function concluded with the vote of thanks by K.Mareeshwari, II B.E. (Agri.), Paavai Engineering College. Our special thanks to Dean Academics, Organizers, Heads of various departments, Faculty members, Audio & Visual department and students, who made this event a grand success.
