The Department of EEE, Paavai Institutions has conducted a two day in-house Faculty Development Programme on the title, “Circuit Theory” on 27.11.2017 & 28.11.2017. The resource persons were Mr.D.Murugesan, Mrs.V.Royna Daisy, Mrs.B.Gomathi, Mr.K.Arutselvan and Mrs.R.M.Thamilselvi. The faculty members of EEE department of Paavai Engineering College, Paavai College of Engineering and Pavai College of Technology have attended this FDP. Dr.K.Selvi Dean-Academics and Dr.R.KasthuriBai Dean –Faculty Development inaugurated the FDP and insisted the faculty members to consider this kind of FDP as a forum to discuss on the various topics in the subject, and Dr.G.Balaji ,HOD EEE was present during the session and supported the faculty members.
The first session on 27.11.2017 was handled by Mr.D.Murugesan on the topic “Basics of Elements”. In his session he gave a brief introduction on the Basic circuit laws(KCL ,KVL) and a detailed review on the comparison of Mesh and Nodal analysis. He also elaborated on the basic operations of Star-Delta and Delta-Star conversions. . The next session was handled by , Mrs.V.Royna Daisy on the topic, “Network Theorems”. In her session she explained about Thevenin’s Theorem, Norton’s Theorem, Superposition Theorem and Maximum Power Transfer Theorem. She gave detailed explanation on how to derive the output voltage and Output current for the different types of networks. Technical problems were also solved. The next session was handled by Mrs.B.Gomathi on the topic, “Resonance and Coupled Circuits”. In her session she explained about Series and Parallel Resonance circuits. She also gave detailed explanation about Voltage Magnification, Coupled circuits and Coupling Co-efficients.
On the second day, 28.11.2017, the first session was handled Mr.K.Arutselvan on the topic “Transient Circuits”. He enumerated on the effects and causes of Transients in Electrical circuits and PCB. This session included animations to have a clear understanding of the circuit operations and solving of technical questions of types frequently asked in GATE exams. The next session was handled by Mrs.R.M.Thamilselvi on the topic, “Power Measurements”. She gave a detailed explanation on the Active,Reactive and Apparent Power. She also dealt the topics on Wattmeter methods and how it works practically. Derivations were also derived under this topic.
Hands on training on “Circuit Theory” using PSIM was given in the afternoon sessions. The faculty members were able to simulate and verify the outputs of circuits learnt in the theory sessions.
This two day FDP was an exclusive forum to discuss and extend the knowledge of faculty members in the Circuit Theory field. It was sure that the faculty members have got a clear idea on the ways and means to explain the students clearly to have an in-depth knowledge.
