Years of history and education
Shri N.V. Natarajan, the visionary Founder & Chairman of Paavai Institutions, hails from Rasipuram in Namakkal District, Tamil Nadu. He was born to Shri Varadappa Gounder, an enterprising civil engineering contractor and sago factory owner, and Smt. Paavaiammal, a strong-willed and industrious woman. It is from them that he inherited the values of sincerity, dedication, and hard work.
From a young age, Shri N.V. Natarajan was exposed to the workings of business and responsibility. Even as a school student, he managed the accounts of the family’s sago factory during evenings and holidays—an early introduction to the world of work and accountability. A pivotal moment came during his 9th standard, when a team of Commercial Tax Officers, impressed by his clarity and presence of mind, advised him to pursue Chartered Accountancy instead of engineering, citing its challenge and exclusivity. That moment became the turning point in charting his academic and professional path.
Although he excelled in Mathematics, consistently scoring centum, he chose the commerce stream at Jamal Mohammed College, Trichy, driven by his newfound ambition. He later pursued his B.Com.
At just seventeen, he carried a dream that was far beyond his years—to build an educational institution of his own. During his undergraduate studies at KKC, he vividly sketched the layout of a future college campus on the wrapper of his Mercantile Law assignment. His professor recognized the spark and encouraged his dream.
After graduation, he went on to study Chartered Accountancy, fully aware of the rigour it demanded. Backed by his strong foundation in Mathematics and Accountancy, he persevered and succeeded—despite the challenges of managing family business responsibilities alongside.
Varadappa Educational Society was established in 1986 in memory of his father, with a focus on training and developmental activities in schools across the surrounding region. In 1994, APTECH was introduced in Rasipuram under the banner of Paavai Academy. To support this initiative, Paavai Trust was formed to manage the APTECH Centre at Dharmapuri. Subsequently, Paavai Foundations Private Limited was set up in Salem to offer advanced computer training in Software Development and Exports under the ASSET banner of APTECH. Consequently Paavai Exports was established by his family to ensure the delivery of high-quality textile exports and software as well. In 1988, Paavai Chemicals was founded to cater to the growing demand for quality products in both industrial and residential sectors.
In 1987, he married Ms. Mangaiarkarasi. A woman of strength, clarity, and compassion, Smt. Mangai Natarajan has been an integral force behind every Paavai milestone. Inspired by her husband’s entrepreneurial zeal, she took up an investment portfolio including an LIC career and rose to become one among the top 25 in LIC at the national level. Since then, she has been a leading investment consultant in the finance and insurance sectors across Salem and Namakkal districts. Endearingly known as the “formless form of Paavai,” she continues to play a silent yet powerful role in the everyday operations of the institution.
Together, they are blessed with a daughter, Ms. N. Avanti—a dynamic leader and a vibrant force at Paavai. An architect by profession, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Anna University and a Master’s from the prestigious Pratt Institute, New York. She later served as a Teach for India Fellow, dedicating herself to providing quality education to underprivileged children. As an educator, she brings a keen sense of dynamism and innovation to every endeavour in her role as Director – Student Affairs.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, she is a multifaceted individual—an accomplished dancer, engaging speaker, singer, and artist. Her contributions extend beyond the institution. As the Convenor of the CII Indian Women Network (IWN) – Chennai Zone, she plays an active role in shaping conversations around leadership, mentorship, and women’s empowerment. With creativity, clarity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, she continues to support her parents in the administration and strategic growth of Paavai.
The dream that started in Shri N.V. Natarajan’s teenage years came to life with the founding of Pavai Varam Educational Trust on 13th October 1997, named in honour of his parents, Smt. Paavaiammal and Shri Varadappa Gounder. In 1998, on the 15th anniversary of that dream, he established Paavai Women Polytechnic College with Smt. Mangai Natarajan as the correspondent and Shri K. Senthil as the Director of Admissions, who is a Management graduate and an Advocate. Later in the year 2000, the Trust added Shri T.R. Manisekaran as Vice Chairman, Shri T.R. Palanivel as Secretary, Dr. M. Ramakrishnan as Treasurer and Shri N. Palanivel as Joint Secretary to the board.
Today, Paavai Institutions thrive under his leadership, rooted in discipline, culture, and academic excellence. Shri N.V. Natarajan is known for his meticulous approach, perfectionist mindset, and unwavering focus on values and quality. He believes in leading by example—resting little, expecting the best, and nurturing every member of Paavai like family. For him, teachers are the pillars, students the pearls, and education the purpose.
It is this deep commitment to ideals and integrity that has earned Paavai its place as a respected institution—not just in Namakkal, but across Tamil Nadu and beyond.
