Training empowers students to realize their dreams and improve their knowledge and skills. Learning is not attained by chance; it must be sought with ardour and attended with diligence. The Faculty Development Department organized a three day orientation programme for the first year students of Pavai Arts and Science college for women to acquaint them with the institutional practices, learning techniques and also prepare them for the transition from school to college. Since paavai is a student centric organization efforts were taken to enhance confidence and compatibility. The orientation programme was held from 02.07.2018 to 13.07.2018 at Keerthi Hall in three batches. Each batch consisted of 211 students and totally there were 640 students who attended the orientation programme. The Inauguration was held at the Keerthi hall on 02.07.2018, where Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan, Chairman deified the womenhood, and emphasized that the students have to handshake with English as it is the global language. He desired that women should be the custodian of values in every society. Mrs.Mangai Natarajan, Correspondent stated that women should be the symbol of culture, boldness and courage. She highlighted the significance of the Institution logo, “Adore Femina” to the first year students. KasthuriBai, Dean, Faculty Development Department, Dr. K.Selvi, Dean Academics, Dr.A.S.Kandasamy, Dean ECE, PEC, Mrs.C.Jayalakshmi, Dean Counselling, Mrs Vimala CSE HoD, Mr.Loganathan, Head, Audio-visual, Mrs.Mahalakshmi, Additional Placement and Training officer, PEC and Mrs. K.Subashini, Associate professor, Faculty Development Department focused on the areas such as ‘History of Paavai and Goal setting’, ‘Learning techniques’, ‘Communication skills’, ‘Paavai culture’, ‘Fundamentals of science’, ‘Transition from school to college’, ‘Examination system’, ‘Life skills’, ‘Career development’ and ‘Beauty of Mathematics’. Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan Chairman, Paavai Institutions, while presenting his session on the History of Paavai and Goal setting, explained the vision, mission and his strong determination to establish Paavai as a guiding torch to the youth folk. He further focused on the steps for goal setting and on the methods to translate one’s goal into a reality. Dr.S.Sukumar, Dean, Civil elaborated the learning techniques to motivate the students to secure university ranks. Dr.Kasthuri Bai, Dean, Faculty Development Department expounded the essence of Communication skills. She focused on the skills of English language such as, listening, speaking, reading and writing. She further expatiated the importance of English language as it is the language of opportunities for placing the students in a good company. Dr.K.Selvi, Dean Academics detailed the message of Paavai Culture, Paavai Mantra and Paavai belief.. Dr.A.S.Kandasamy, Dean ECE, explained the thrust on learning the fundamentals of physics, chemistry and mathematics. He highlighted the significance of the Sun and profundity of Gayathri mantra. Mrs.C.Jayalakshmi, Dean Counselling dealt on the title ‘Transition from school to college’. She explained that every child is unique and has potential to uphold themselves to make their life a successful one. Mrs Vimala, CSE, HoD elaborated the examination system and actuate the students to get gold medal. Mr.Loganathan, Head, Audio-visual dept, illustrated with examples, the life skills and their application in day-to-day life. He spoke about the importance of rendering first aid to victims who are in danger. Mrs.Mahalakshmi, Additional Training and Placement officer, gave a big drift in the placement and its importance. She also focused on the need to obtain required marks along with technical skills and every day application of the concept that they have to learn to get placed in their Dream Company. In this regard, she explained the importance of career and enabled students to work towards getting placed in the reputed institution. Mrs. K.Subashini, Associate professor, Faculty Development Department emphasized the Beauty of Mathematics. She further highlighted the Fibonacci sequence and Golden Ratio, the finger prints of God. Each resource person explained, elaborated and had an interactive session with the students. Around ten topics had been handled in these three days. Throughout the orientation the students were assisted to hone their LSRW skills. Treasure hunt, Me-Chart, debate, English rally and games were administered and learners were kept actively engaged. Through out the sessions the students felt excited and prizes were also given to students. At the end of the sessions the students lighted candles and took a pledge that they will discharge their roles with devotion and determination. The programme thus catered to the needs of the students and the Faculty Development Department expressed its willingness to be with them as and when required. The valedictory function was held on 13.07.2018 at the Prakathi hall by 02.00 p.m. All the students recorded their feedback. Smt. Mangai Natarajan, correspondent felicitated the gathering. She congratulated the student for expressing their desire to come up in life. The Chairman delivered valedictory address in which, once again, he reiterated that a well established goal is sure to succeed and Paavai stands testimony to it. After the national anthem the programme came to an end.
