The workshop was conducted on 20.07.2017 at J.R.D TATA hall in Paavai College of Technology campus by Department of agriculture engineering from 10.00AM to 4.30 PM. Dr.B.J.PANDIAN, Dr.E.VADIVEL, Dr.S.RAMASAMY & Mr.PRABHU SHANKAR presided over the workshop by giving lectures on sustainable water management. Farmers from various places and students of Agriculture department of Paavai Engineering College participated in the workshop.
INAUGURATION:
The workshop was inaugurated by Smt. MANGAI NATARAJAN, Correspondent of Paavai Institutions by lighting the lamp, followed by Dr.M.PREMKUMAR, Principal of Paavai Engineering College welcomed the gathering. Sri.CA N.V.NATARAJAN Chairman of Paavai Institutions gave the introductory address and honoured the guest speakers.
SESSION 1:
The first session was started after a tea break by 10.40 AM by Dr.B.J.Pandian, Director, water technology centre, TNAU, Coimbatore who gave lectures on sources of water available in Tamilnadu for farmers and the way to use them properly and efficiently.
SESSION 2:
Dr.E.Vadivelu, Former Horticulture Director, TNAU, Coimbatore gave lectures on precision farming methods using Drip irrigation system. He presented the
precision farming projects which are implemented successfully in various districts of Tamilnadu and explained about the advantages of using Drip irrigation system.
SESSION 3:
The session was handled by Dr.S.Ramasamy, Former head of organic farming centre, TNAU, Coimbatore. He explained about the requirement of change in thinking of farmers for adopting new technologies without destroying traditional farming methods.
SESSION 4:
The stalls were arranged for farmers. Some of the drip irrigation,solar panels and solar energy companies displayed their equipments which are advanced in the field.
SESSION 5:
After the lunch break, the last session commenced which was held by Mr.Prabhu Shankar, M.D of Dhanyas Organics pvt.ltd, Coimbatore who gave a lecture on aeroponics technology, where crops are grown without soil and considerably less amount of water. He also explained the number of experiments made to find suitable environment for 18 different crops and the difficulties they faced in marketingthe produce and how to overcome that.
VOTE OF THANKS:
There was a discussion session between farmers, students, and our guest speakers. Queries of farmers and students were cleared by our guest speakers This helped everyone to know about some advanced techniques in agriculture and ways to handle their problems. Finally the program was concluded by Dr.R.JAGANNATHAN Dean of Agriculture Department by delivering vote of thanks.
