An in-house Faculty Development Programme on “Engineering Thermodynamics” was conducted by the FDD on 15.05.2017 and 16.05.2017 for the faculty members of Mechanical Engineering departments of Paavai Engineering Colleges. Mr.M.P Mohanraj, Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering, PCT, was the resource person for the forenoon session on 15.05.2017. He spoke about the Basic Concepts and first law of Thermodynamics, classification and various flow and non flow processes of thermodynamics and Concept of temperature and heat. Mr.R.Thuyavan, Assistant Professor, Mechanical, PEC, handled the second session wherein he taught about the Second law of thermodynamics, Carnot cycle, reversed Carnot cycle, Heat Engine, Refrigerator, Heat pump, Entropy and principle of increasing entropy.
On 16.05.2017, Mr.P.Elumalai, Associate Professor, Mechanical, PEC, handled the forenoon session. He has explained about the Properties of pure substances, p-V, p-T, T-V,T-s, h-s diagrams of pure substances and steam power cycles. He also illustrated through graphical representation and solved a few problems. In the last session, Mr.V.Elango, Assistant Professor, Mechanical, PEC, spoke about Thermodynamic relations, Psychrometric properties and processes.
The most significant aspect of the FDP was the two day tutorial sessions conducted were very useful for the faculty members. The resource persons gave various typical problems in order to enhance their analytical skills. In addition to the training session, assignments were also given to the faculty to ensure an in-depth knowledge in their respective fields. Dr.S.Sukumar, Dean, Civil Engineering, and Dr.K.Selvi, Dean, Academics graced the programme.
